Postdoc Position: Any topics in the atmospheric and
climate dynamics
Ph.D. Position: Stratosphere-troposphere coupling in the
chemistry-cliamte models
A Ph.D. position is open now in the area of chemistry-climate
modelling. Chemistry-Climate Model (CCM) is the latest climate model
which incorporates atmosphere-ocean circulations and chemistry in both
the troposphere and stratosphere. In this project, we hope to
identify 1) Antarctic-ozone-hole-related circulation changes in the
troposphere and 2) the role of tropospheric ozone and methan on the
regional climate changes especially over the East Asia. The
dynamical mechanisms will be explored by performing sensitivity
tests and diagnostic analyses. The candidates should be familiar with
atmospheric and climate dynamics. Good computing skills (LINUX, FORTRAN, Graphic
Packages) and excellent communication skills in English will be an asset. To apply, please send a CV and official transcript by email to seokwooson at
snu.ac.kr. This position is opened until filled.
M.Sc. Position: Short-lived climate pollutants and their impacts
on regional climate changes
A M.Sc. position is available, pending budgetary approval. The proposed
research aims to re-assess the role of aerosol and tropospheric
ozone (possibly methan too) on the regional and global
circulations. It is particularly focused on their impacts on mean
meridional circulation, East Asian monsoon, and polar
amplification. This position is opened until filled.
M.Sc. Position: Blocking highs
A M.Sc. position is available, pending budgetary approval. This
project aims to better understand spatial distribution of blocking
episodes and their long-term variability. Their impacts to
midlatitude extreme weather events and stratospheric circulations
will be also examined. The candidates should be familiar with
synoptic meteorology and atmospheric dynamics. Good computing skills
(LINUX, FORTRAN, Graphic Packages) and excellent communication skills in English will be an asset. To apply, please send a CV and official transcript by email to seokwooson at
snu.ac.kr. This position is opened until filled.
Other Topics
There are a couple of other interesting topics not described
above. They include 1) dynamical relationship between the Hadley cell
and the westerly jet, and 2) troposphere-stratosphere coupling in
association with blocking and extratropical transition. Please contact
me if there is any interest.
